Watching paint dry
Hey again! So I just finished posting my new jewelry organizers on my website. I really enjoy making these and getting creative with the design! I've added a new section to my shop on Artfire called...Jewelry Organizers...for all of my new creations. I'd love if you'd stop by!

Here are my finished products! I love them and wish I could keep them all!

I've been doing a lot of crafting lately so I'll be keeping the blog up to date on all of my new projects. :)

DIY Jewelry Organizer

Hey guys! I'm excited to give you a tutorial for a cute DIY jewelry organizer! It's easy and inexpensive. The best part is that you get a great organizer that you could easily pay $80+ in a retail store for a similar item. This is a great way to display and store your jewelry especially if your jewelry tends to get tangled in your current storage. I made my own and it was great. I'll be creating more and likely selling them on my Artfire site for those who aren't into DIY projects. Here was my finished project with my added jewelry.

So let's get started! You will need:
  • Picture frame
  • Wire caging (hex or a smaller grid)
  • Spray paint (optional)
  • S hooks
  • Staple gun
  • Wire cutter
First you'll need your picture frames. Wood frames work best. You can purchase an new frame or find a cool old one in your house or from a second hand store. I would recommend visiting some yard sales to find frames since it is yard sale season. I found my frames in my parents garage from some old decorative pictures.

I almost kept my frames gold but they had begun to chip so I opted to paint them. Pick a paint color you like and spray paint your frame. Of course, remember to cover the surface you're spraying on.

After the paint dries measure your wire caging to fit the back of the frame. You'll want the caging to cover the back of the frame enough to secure the caging on the back with staples. Use your wire cutters to cut the caging. Be careful not to cut or poke yourself with the wire. I suggest protective gloves if you have them when doing this.

Next, after you've cut and measured your caging it's time to staple the caging to the back of the frame. Use as many staples as you see fit to hold the caging in place.

If you have any wire that is too long and hangs over the back edge of the frame cut those pieces and viola!  You have a completed jewelry organizer!
Next, add in your favorite jewelry.

For necklaces use the S hooks. Hang the S hook on your chosen place on your organizer and hang your necklaces from the hook. Larger hooks will be able to hold more necklaces.

Have fun!

Holiday Party Style

Happy Holidays!
I love to style ensembles and with the holiday season kicking into gear this is the perfect time to put together some great party outfits (styled with beautiful jewelry of course)! For this look I wanted to build the ensembe around the jewelry so I'm starting with the Gray Pearls and Baubles Necklace and the Gray Pearl Dangle Earrings from Mozella Designs.

Mozella Designs, $45 Mozella Designs, $10
So now it's time for the dress. I'm really liking the snake print trend right now so I picked this sequin snake print dress from Lulu's.
Lulu's, $53, www.lulus.com
Then I'd give the dress a classic touch with a pop of color so I chose this bright blue rouched sleeve jacket from Express.
Express, $138, www.express.com
Normally since the dress is sequined I would pair the ensemble with a more understated shoe but this mini sequined high heel from Express is still nice and doesn't overwhelm the ensemble with flash.
Express, $118, www.express.com
Last but not least we need a simple clutch to top off the ensemble. I chose this black faux crocodile clutch that's big enough to get in the essentials.
Forever 21, $15, www.forever21.com
I'll post more holiday ensembles as the weekend goes on! Let me know what you think!

Week 1 - The Blues

Today I'm starting my 52 week challenge. In case you didn't peek at my initial post I joined a challenge on Etsy to create at least one new piece every week. That's not necessarily a difficult feat for a jewelry maker since some pieces are very quickly made and others take a little longer. Some seasons are also easier to produce in like around holidays (especially gifting holidays). It becomes harder during the down times like the summer to keep producing every week but I am up for the challenge!
I've been in a blue mood lately with the winter weather. So I went out to the craft stores today to try to find something blue to inspire my creativity. I spent way longer than I anticipated but I found a beautiful strand of blue lace agate sticks (above) to work with. Now I usually don't use "stick" beads because I never know what to do with them and I still don't but thus the challenge! I've got the next six days to make something lovely so check back for the finished creation!

I've also been thinking about making a necklace with these gorgeous natural non-dyed aquamarine graduated beads I bought early last year when I was first getting started making jewelry. They were quite an investment but they were beautiful and they're my birthstone. I have some earrings in my shop that I used a few of the stones in but most still sit unused. I know when I complete the necklace I probably won't want to sell it but you will definitely see it in the shop when it's done.

Thanks for reading!
